Ping Tuning Machine
Left to right:
5/8 inch space bit; to recess washer.
8mm bit for hold for threaded shaft.
10mm bit for boss on tuner case.
3/32 bit to drill holes for pins on case. |

|
Place center of tuning machine about 5/8 inch from edge of
wood. With the 5/8 spade bit recess the mounting hole so that the wood is between
5/8 and 11/16 thick. |

|
Drill a 8mm hole completely through the wood.
This hole accommodates the threaded attachment shaft. Locate this hole in the center
of the recess.
This hole also locates the hole center on the opposite side of the wood. |

|
Turn the wood over.
Drill a 10mm hole centered on the previous 8mm hole.
Drill this hole to a depth of 5/16 inch to accommodate the boss on the tuning machine
case. |

|
Insert the Ping Tuning Machine in the 10mm hole. Push
down until the pins on the underside of the Tuning Machine case meet the wood base.
Align the Tuning Machine in the desired position.
Pad the case with a piece of soft wood; tap firmly with a hammer. |

|
Remove the Tuning Machine from the hole. Notice the
impressions of the locating pins made by tapping the Tuning Machine. |

|
Use a 3/32 inch drill bit to drill out the holes to the full
depth of the pins. |

|
Re-insert the Tuning Machine, this time to the full depth of
the locating pins.
A light tap with a padded hammer might be required to seat the case to the wooden base. |

|
Washer and threaded hollow shaft mount over the peg of the
Tuning Machine. |

|
Grasp the nut end of the hollow threaded shaft. Turn
clockwise to tighten the threaded shaft. |

|
The fully mounted tuning key.
